9 Types of Drinks to Lower Cholesterol Levels

9 Types of Drinks to Lower Cholesterol Levels

Apart from being produced naturally by the liver, cholesterol can also be found in foods of animal origin, such as meat and milk.

Cholesterol is needed by the body to form healthy cells, produce a number of hormones, and produce vitamin D. However, cholesterol levels that are too high will accumulate in the blood vessels and interfere with blood flow which will interfere with health.

Therefore, you need to check your blood cholesterol levels at least once every 3-5 years.

Generally, people with high cholesterol levels will check their health with a doctor and be given special drugs. However, you can also work around this by consuming certain foods or drinks.

1. Green Tea

Green tea itself contains catechins and antioxidant compounds that help lower "bad" LDL and cholesterol levels. A study was conducted to prove that the catechins and antioxidant compounds in green tea can reduce bad LDL by about 14.4 percent in 8 weeks.

2. Soy Milk

Replacing the use of cream or high fat milk with soy milk can help reduce cholesterol levels. Soy milk is known to have a low saturated fat content.

The International Food and Drug Administration recommends consuming 2-3 servings of soy-based foods and drinks every day.

3. Oat Drinks

A 2018 review found that wheat-based drinks lower cholesterol levels than wheat-based foods. Make sure the drinks you are consuming or buying contain beta-glucans.

4. Tomato Juice

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene compounds, which are bright red carotenoid hydrocarbons found in red fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, watermelon, flour, and papaya.

5. Berries

Many berries are high in antioxidants and fiber. Both are known to help lower cholesterol levels. Berries that need to be known to contain these include Strawberry, Blueberry, Blackberry, and Raspberry.

Berian berian can also be made smoothies by mixing two fruits or about 80 grams of any berry. Then mix it with half a cup of low-fat milk or yogurt and half a cup of cold water.

6. Cocoa Drinks

Cocoa is the main ingredient in chocolate making. Cocoa contains antioxidants called flavanols and unsaturated fatty acids that can increase cholesterol levels.

A 2015 study found that consuming a 450mg drink containing flavanols twice a day for 1 month can lower bad LDL cholesterol levels while increasing good HDL cholesterol levels.

7. Plant Milk Smoothie

Many types of vegetable milk contain ingredients to help lower or control cholesterol levels.

8. Alcohol

Several studies have found that consuming low to moderate levels of alcohol can be more beneficial in terms of heart health than not drinking at all.

Consuming alcohol in moderation increases the level of good HDL cholesterol in one bottle depending on gender, age, as well as the type of alcohol consumed.

9. Beverages Containing Sterols and Stanols

Sterols and stanols are plant chemicals similar in shape and size to cholesterol that block the absorption of some cholesterol. However, vegetables and nuts contain low levels of sterols and stanols, which do not lower cholesterol.

Food companies add this chemical to several foods and drinks, including fortified yogurt drinks, milk, and fruit juices.
