Capcom held a Resident Evil Showcase on YouTube and used it to reveal fresh details about both Resident Evil Village and a brand-new online multiplayer game called Resident Evil Re:Verse.

Resident Evil Village Release Date

Resident Evil Village is the next entry in the Resident Evil survival horror games from Capcom. We've known of its existence for months, but a new trailer and the all-important release date were announced during the showcase.

The good news is, Village will be available to play the same day on all platforms just to bad Switch not get into the game.

Capcom is releasing the game on May 7 2021 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam. Purchasing the game on PS4 gets you a free digital upgrade to the PS5 version, and Xbox One players get the same deal using Microsoft's Smart Delivery feature.

Plus on 21 january, Capcom has released a new and free demo called Maiden although only for PlayStation 5 (exclusive), which functions as a side story taking place in the same — Resident Evil Village world. So! You can play it without ruining the main game story and take the role of a different character to make it a unique, separate experience.

Story game play demo

The implication is that you’re playing as a young girl (the maiden of the title) and perhaps a former maid at the Eastern European castle seen in the Resident Evil Village gameplay trailer. GameCentral demo review

Although the demo starts without explanation, just a suggestion that you ‘escape the dungeon’. In gameplay terms there’s very little going on in the demo, since you have no weapons or any way to defend yourself.

The implication, in both the trailer and the demo, is that Lady Dimitrescu and her ‘daughters’ are vampires or at least that they drink blood — and act like them. There are also some clear nods to the legends of Elizabeth B├íthory, with most of their victims appearing to be young women.

Essentially, all you’re doing is wandering around some empty rooms picking up the odd interactive objects, but we love that fact because despite how unexciting that sounds the demo it is still terrifying.

Several versions of Resident Evil Village are being made available for purchase. Alongside the Standard Edition there's a Digital Deluxe and Collector's Edition.

Digital Deluxe includes "multiple bonus items, including a Samurai Edge weapon, an option to replace the save room —music and the typewriters you save on with the music and tape recorder from Resident Evil 7 biohazard, and other bonuses."

The Collector's Edition builds on that by adding "a Chris Redfield statue, poster, art book, and SteelBook case in a special Collector’s Edition box." Capcom is also offering a bundle containing Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 7.
