Easy way to go-green

Eco-friendly .en

With the effects of climate change becoming clearer each year, it is clear that living a greener lifestyle is more important than ever.  If you want to help your planet, don't think that nothing can be done.  This means you can do so much and maybe more than you think.

There are many things you can do to play a small role in reducing waste, cleaning the air, and preserving the natural landscape. Everyone plays an important role in keeping the environment clean and safe.

Here are a few simple steps you can take in your office, service and home today

Easy way to go-green

1. Go Digital

Take advantage of digital products when you make bill payments, buy tickets, etc.  The more you do online, the less you need paper.  Think about if you can send email instead of letters or if you need to print a file or if you can save it on your computer

2. Save Money & Energy

Turning off lights at home when not in use or switching Lights from one of the simplest ways to reduce energy consumption when you leave a room.

Turn off your air conditioner at night when it is cold, unplug your electronics and appliances when you are not using it, this alone can save energy costs.  When you leave the room If it's bright outside open the curtains and take advantage of natural light.

3. Get a Reusable Shopping Bag

Use bags that can be reused when you shop.  Bring your own bag when you buy basic necessities at the store.  That way you reduce the use of plastic, and we all know how dangerous plastic is to the environment.

4. Reuse

Before recycling think about items that you can reuse first?  Can you print on both sides of the paper or can you reuse it as used paper for taking notes or shopping lists?

5. Donate, sale, or give-away

If you have items at home that you no longer need, don't throw them away.  Instead of giving it to someone who will use it, donate to a thrift store or have a garage sale and put cash in your pocket.

6. Get Share

Does everyone in the office or service need their own staplers, punch holes, scissors, etc.?  Of course not!  Save money and unnecessary manufacturing by using less in the first place.  Instead of buying new stationery, see if you can get refills.

7. Turn off the computer

Both in Service and Office Make sure the computer is turned off when you are not using it rather than just leaving it on standby.  Even in energy saving mode you use a lot of energy.

8. Recycle

Make sure you recycle what you can.  The RLO office has a green trash can to recycle paper and most councils will collect recycled materials such as plastic and cardboard from residential services so make sure you sort the trash before throwing it away.

9. Reduce your use of water

Saving water only use as much water as you need, saving water and energy needed to heat it when it comes to teacups and baths etc.  You know you can get a dual-flush toilet or water saving device for water tanks that reduce water.

10. Green Your Transportation

Share a car, use public transportation, walk or ride a bicycle.  This often provides a great opportunity to integrate with the community or get to know your colleagues better!

11. Bring your own lunch

Bringing lunch to work in a reusable container is probably the greenest and healthiest way to eat at work.  Buying lunch every day almost certainly ends with a miniature mountain of packaging waste and is far more expensive than making your own too!

As you can see there are many ways you can go green.  Nothing is difficult, it is very easy and very simple and anyone can use it to their advantage.  If you care about the world and want to make a difference, know that you can, you can make a difference in the world.  Use these tips to be used well and the many benefits you receive will not disappoint you.
